SUNIAI
Suniai is a Norwegian, Bergen born recording artist, singer-songwriter, and performer whose music moves at the intersection of raw rock energy and spiritual depth.
For Suniai every performance is a ritualistic journey that fuses theatre, opera, and music into an experience that awakens and transforms the audience.
With over 18 years on stage, Suniai has honed his craft through opera, musical theatre, and acting, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Opera from the Norwegian Academy of Music and a Bachelor’s degree in Acting from Nord University. He has performed in productions ranging from Phantom of the Opera and Carmen to The Jungle Book on Norwegian stages including Folketeatret, Riksteatret, and the Norwegian National Opera.
In 2019, he left his stage roots behind and began writing his own songs, unfiltered and from the heart. In 2025, he released his debut rock album, Everyone Has a Heart, a raw, stripped-down testament to struggle, awakening, and the discovery of his true voice.
His sound blends the haunting vulnerability of Jeff Buckley, the theatricality of David Bowie, the poetic grit of Leonard Cohen, and the unfiltered intensity of Nirvana, all channeled through a voice that is uniquely his own: raw, electrifying, and piercing straight to the heart.
The name Suniai, comes fom Sanskrit and means to listen deeply, not just with the ears, but with the soul. It is the art of tuning into truth, rhythm, and the vibration that underlies all creation, the very essence he channels in every performance.

My music is born from listening deeply, listening to silence, to spirit, to the hidden melodies of life that call us back to our essence. When I sing, write, or perform, I am tuning into that frequency and giving it form."
Suniai is not just a name. It is my compass, my practice, and my offering: to create music that awakens, uplifts, and reminds us of who we truly are.

Hi, my name is Eigil. I was born in Bergen, Norway, but my second home is in music. When I create and perform, I become Suniai.
Music entered my life early, and I started playing Classical piano at the age of five. However I always felt like this was forced upon me, and that this was just the music others wanted me to play.
What I loved was movement, dance, and rhythm. I used to put up stage shows in the garden where I danced to Billie Jean and invited friends as backup singers. The entrance fee was five Norwegian Kroner.
The groovy music of Michael Jackson was my first love.
THE BEGINNING
NEW DISCOVERIES
In my teens, I discovered rock, devouring Metallica and Iron Maiden. I fell in love with their epic and larger than life performances, and gritty and raw sound.
I even formed a band and started playing guitar. I wanted to sing like Ronnie James Dio at thirteen but my voice constantly got hoarse, still the spark stayed put and I even started writing my own songs. Rock music was calling me, even if I still I didn’t know how to perform it like the legends I loved.
THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL
In my 20s I went to opera school, then acting school. I performed in Operas like Carmen and musicals like The Phantom of the Opera, toured Norway as Baloo in The Jungle Book.
On paper, I was succeeding. But on the inside I felt nothing but sadness and emptiness. I was living a life others expected of me, instead of a life I actually cared about and loved.
To numb my pain I started treating myself with a “cure” of drugs, alcohol and sex. It was like I was living the rockstar life without actually performing the music.
At one point I took it way too far and overdosed, luckily I survived. That was the wake up call I needed…
I realized that just because you are suceeding at something, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the true path for you.
BREAKTHROUGH
In 2019, I was severely depressed and had just come home from a national tour with a musical. To ease my pain I picked up a guitar, and began writing songs again. Slowly but surely I let go of my sadness, it was like I was transmuting my pain through music. At one point I made a conscious decision that I was no longer gonna hide behind roles or masks, instead I was determined to find my own authentic voice. No matter the cost!
I wrote hundreds of songs, and from them the artist name Suniai emerged. In that process, I discovered a new singing voice which was raw, gritty, intimate, and unmistakably my own, a voice that finally spoke my truth.
In 2025, I released my debut album, Everyone Has a Heart, as a testament to my journey.
The album moves through power, grief, rage, and tenderness, and ultimately returns to one simple truth: behind every illusion, every wound, every silence: there is always a beating heart!
